It turns out when you raise animals well -- they simply taste better. All of our meats at Grow & Behold are raised in the US on pasture, without hormones or antibiotics, and turkey is one meat where you can really really taste the different. These whole turkeys are leaner than conventional birds, and also more moist. They cook much more quickly too. Raised in small batches by a network of dedicated Amish and Mennonite growers, our turkey are moved to fresh pasture daily where they roam and forage freely. They are fed exclusively GMO-free grain, never any hormones, antibiotics or animal by-products.
Neck and giblets are sold separately and not included.
Basic Cooking Technique
Roast at 325F, or smoke. Allow 12-15 min per pound and use a meat thermometer -- the flesh may still look "pink" but if the temperature is 165F and juices run clear, your bird is cooked. You may need to remove dark meat and roast for a little longer, or cover breast meat so it doesn't dry out while dark meat finishes cooking.

Organic pastured turkey
This turkey was SUPERB. We prepared it on the BBQ on a stand and sprayed it periodically which gave it a lovely color. Put some soaked wool chips in a metal box for some smoke. Used the recipe on this site. Lots of juicy meat. Thank you Grow and Behold.

Turkey was a mess
I really was excited for this turkey and wanted to like it. But unfortunately, it was probably the worst looking turkey I have ever bought. The skin had completely ripped and fallen off half the breast and leg, it was lopsided, and there were still a lot of feathers I had to remove. I called customer service, they told me to simply use a safety pin to try and piece the skin back together. Tried that, and it made it even worse, held for 2 seconds before ripping through the skin entirely. I also didn't realize the giblets and the turkey neck were not included with the bird, which I am sure is written somewhere on the website but I guess I must have missed it. Bummer because I needed that for my gravy. Customer service wouldn't refund my money, but did offer $25 back. I was pretty embarassed though to display this turkey on Thanksgiving as the centerpiece. Note from Grow and Behold: We're so sorry about the ripped skin! While we take quality control very seriously, we and our packers are only human, and occasionally, things can slip through the cracks. Kosher poultry often does have some remaining feathers to pluck, but we appreciate the pictures you sent us, and were glad to see that your bird was really in pretty good shape!

Outstanding in every way
This is by far the best turkey any of us has ever eaten. Upon delivery we received VERY helpful defrosting tips and cooking temperature instructions. We served it for our FriendsGiving celebration last weekend, lightly seasoned with lemons, quartered pomegranate, rosemary, sage, thyme, salt and pepper. I can’t even describe in words the magnificent flavor of the turkey. Everyone in our party is still raving about it. There were no leftovers to speak of. Next time we are getting two! Still dreaming of those crispy juicy drumsticks.
How Many Pieces Will I Receive?
Our frozen meats are packaged in vacuum-sealed packages. Most packages contain one piece (ie, one Brisket). Some packages will contain two pieces (ie, Lamb Chops). Packages of smaller items, such as Chicken Wings or Pepper Steak, will contain multiple pieces.
For red meat items and multi-pack poultry items, vacuum-sealed packages may be packed in a cardboard box. If there is an option to choose how many packages you'd like in the box, you'll make that selection under "Customize Your Order." Then you'll choose your preferred weight (that is, the combined weight of all the the packages in that box.) If only one choice is showing in a green box, you do not need to make any selection.
Example: Lamb Chops
Let's say you're ordering Lamb Chops and you select the following:
You've chosen: 2 packages, ~1.1 lb, and the price shows $39.99.
You’ll receive 1 box, with 2 packages of lamb chops inside.
Each package will contain 2 lamb chops. You’ll have 4 lamb chops in total. We always try to pack similar-sized items, but you may find that some chops are slightly larger and some are slightly smaller.
How Much Does It Weigh?
We use weight ranges in order to keep our fulfillment system practical and manageable for items with variable weights (for example steaks. Packages of deli meats which are not sold by weight range as we can pack them by exact weight). The ranges are as small as practically possible to minimize the variation between the Selected Weight and the actual weght you receive. Because of this, if the price per pound is shown as "price/lb*", the *" indicates that it is an estimate for comparison purposes only, since the price associated with the selected weight is the price for all items within that weight range.

For example:
- An item with a Selected Weight of ~1.5 lb could weigh as much as 1.6 lb or as little as 1.4 lb
- An item with a Selected Weight of ~3 lb could weigh as much as 3.25 lb or as little as 2.75 lb
We keep the ranges as small as practically possible to minimize the variation you might receive. Sometimes you will receive a bit more than the listed weight, and sometimes a bit less. Our customers find that on average they receive what they are expecting. But if you find that your actual weights in an order are all below the listed average, please snap a picture of the weight labels and send it over to us, and we'll be happy to make things right.
